It seems a day doesn’t go by without a touristy photo of Paris running through our Instagram feeds at any given time. And it’s no wonder: the city, which has been one of Europe’s major centres of finance, commerce, fashion, science, music and art since the 17th century, has continued to capture the imaginations of travellers around the world despite travel trends. And while Paris may not be the most visited city in the world (that distinction belongs to Hong Kong), France is the most visited country in the world, with an estimated 88.9 million overseas arrivals in the past year alone. And with these millions of international travellers comes a seemingly never-ending stream of woefully over-styled and often stereotypical shots of striped tops and berets (sometimes both at the same time), baguettes and croissants, and sometimes even the odd croissant held in front of La Tour Eiffel.
Of course, you can hardly blame visitors (especially first-time ones) from being swept away by the city and wanting to document every moment. But if you’re looking for ways to keep it chic, here are a few examples of how to do it without overdoing it. (And yes, some of these are a little staged as well, and there may be even be a beret sighting, or a croissant or two (unavoidable, really), but there’s still a charm and certain romance about them. So the next time you find yourself caught up in the moment in the City of Light, here is some beautiful inspiration for your next visit…
