YOU MAY HAVE SEEN on our Instagram Stories, glimpses of the festival that overtakes our adopted city at this time every year. Added to UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage of humanity list on November 30, 2016, Las Falles is a rather elaborate festival lasting about two weeks. The five days and nights of Falles (from the 15-19 of March) can best be described as a never ending street party. Crowds in restaurants spill out onto the streets, and fireworks explosions can be heard all day long and throughout the night. On the final night, which is tonight, there is La Cremà (The Burning) in which all the works of art, the ninots, are set ablaze, signaling the end of winter, and ushering in spring. We, as with all the other locals, can not wait for the cleansing flames to herald in a new season, but most of all, to bring the city back to normalcy once again, for after all the days of celebration, it’s always nice to return back to work and the regular rhythm of life here.
This week’s links include a castle in Ireland and blue jeans for summer weekends; The Universe and Beyond, with Stephen Hawking, a recipe for Coconut Banana Cake with Chocolate Frosting, and much, much more.
