A fairytale castle nestled deep in the Charente countryside
In a great need of switching off from work, paperwork, appointments, and other rendez-vous, this week’s topic is a visual trip to a place I desire to discover dans l’avenir, an ideal place for a weekend escape outside of the bourdonnement of Paris.
At the border with le village Massignac, in the heart of France’s Charente Limousin region lies Domaine des Étangs, an 11th-century castle turned lavish boutique hotel. Didier Primat, the château’s owner, collaborated with artist and artisans for the interior design of the space, which was recently redecorated by Isabelle Stanislas, who balanced elements of architecture, earth and sky.
The honey-stone château has its own spa housed in a windmill, a spiral-shaped kitchen garden, a forest, woodland walks, and a Michelin starred restaurant with Fabien Beaufour as the chateau chef.
It is the most perfect place “To switch off. To thrive, breath, stroll, dream look and feel. Dine on the lawn, take tea in the lounge. Listen to the fire crackle and watch dragonflies dance in the air. Live. Live simply. Live in the present. Sleep, love, laugh and dream.” (DEG)
