“Miguel Flores-Vianna, one of the world’s most fashionable photographers of interiors and lifestyle, reveals the original taste of 20 contemporary bohemians.”
THERE IS A BOOK on my Amazon shopping list called Ibiza Bohemia by Renu Kashyap and Maya Boyd that explores the Balearic cliffs, characters and interiors that define the island’s hippie-chic signature style. We visited Ibiza for the first time two years ago, and while it’s rather polished now and a playground for the rich and famous to summer on their yachts, it still retains the bohemian vibe it’s famous for. There are white rocky beaches with bronzed men and old women wearing little but sunscreen, tiny restaurants overlooking the cliffs where you’ll never taste better calamares romana and everywhere, an air of joie de vivre.
And so, when photographer Miguel Flores-Vianna’s new book, Haute Bohemians, came out in September, we were, of course, filled with anticipation. The book catches glimpses into the lives of a modern bohemians — a group of fashion and interior designers, landscape architects, potters, artists and art historians across four continents. Here, we catch a glimpse inside their homes, whether cottages in the countryside, bungalows on the beach, canal-side lofts, East Village apartments and châteaux — those whose spaces are a true reflection of themselves. Modern bohemians wouldn’t dream of hiring a decorator or interior designer, but rather, build their (often maximalist) spaces over a lifetime, spent travelling and working and living. Everything in these spaces has an origin, a story, everything is a layer of time and experiences. But most of all, everything is authentic, in that these spaces are a true reflection of the personalities that inhabit them.
Haute Bohemians is published by Vendome and available here.
