HAD JUST REMARKED to P this morning that for those into numbers, today (06.06.16) might considered a lucky day, and as it happens, it is the day that The Ritz Paris has chosen for its grand re-opening, after being closed for renovations for nearly four years. Originally an 18th century private palace, it was purchased by Swiss hotelier César Ritz, whose dream was to create the most luxurious hotel in the world. Hôtel de Lazun, as it was known, immediately attracted many famous names, including Coco Chanel, who lived there for 34 years, from 1937 to 1971. The renovations are subtle, adding modern elements while keeping the hotel true to its original aesthetic: “It needed a redo, but maintaining its essence and strong identity was essential, and my vision was to keep the Ritz exactly as it was but better,” stated Thierry W. Despont, the New York-based French architect and designer in charge with much of the work. Click through for the hotel’s beautiful transformation . . .
