This week’s interior design inspiration is a special pied-a-terre in Park Avenue, New York. Newly purchased by a young couple, in the hands of Atlanta-based interior designer, Margareth Kirkland, it was given brushstrokes of colour and pattern, and all in a classical but youthful way.
Kirkland had the mission to bring back an aesthetic that would be a younger version of the childhood home of the husband, a home designed by the expert in chintz, Mario Buatta. Using the clients’ own antiques, she incorporated elegant prints and colours: “We mixed pieces that they already had with things we purchased in both Atlanta and New York to create a house that feels like a timeless, collected home” says Kirkland.
The ceilings are an important architecture detail in this project: Kirkland decorated them all with different and beautiful wallpapers
One of the clients’ requests was a chintz bedrom, rendered here in a delicate green
Romantic prints and classic furniture make every room cosy and inviting
The end result is youthful, classical and simply pretty. —Bárbara
