IT WAS A DRINKS on terraces kind of weekend, for all the tall, tall lilac trees in our favourite neighbourhoods have become full and lush, leaving filtered sun rays and pretty dappled patterns on asphalt and car roofs and parked scooters awaiting trips to the market or the beach. We sat on wicker chairs and talked as places filled up at the tables nearby and waiters ambled along clearing empty glasses and crumpled napkins. We also stopped by a favourite café on Saturday for late-afternoon paella and talked about the breakneck passing of days into months and of making the most of this wild and wonderful life. The Weeknd has been very busy. He’s found the time to announce a new album, get a fall haircut, and, as of Wednesday, release a new single from said album. “Starboy” is the title track off Abel Tesfaye’s upcoming release; The Weeknd announced the title and cover art for Starboy on Twitter earlier today. The album will drop on November 25, but until then you can listen to the Weeknd’s latest single — which features Daft Punk!
Dev Hynes directed and edited the clip, which captures the singer/songwriter playing instruments in an empty apartment and an assortment of dancers showcasing their moves on rooftops. Hynes also appears in front of the flag of Sierra Leone, which is painted on a wall. The album borrows its name from Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone where Hynes' father was born.
