ON FRIDAY we finally made it to Hampstead to visit The Holly Bush, perhaps one of the most photographed pubs it London. It’s on a really lovely quiet street and looks just as charming when you first happen upon it as we had hoped. Inside, there’s a lot of wood, banquets and those little round leather bar stools you often see in quintessential British pubs. There’s a fireplace as well, but it wasn’t on the day we arrived, as it was mild. We only stayed for a leisurely drink, but the food looks really good, so we’ll have to book in for lunch or dinner next time (I’m eyeing the pan roasted halibut with squid ink gnocchi, samphire and avruga caviar butter sauce). We’ll add it to our London Pub Guide soon, so you’ll be able to see some of the photos we took. We passed through Mayfair on the way back, just in time to see Fortnum and Mason beginning to put up their famous holiday decorations on the outside of the shop.
This week’s links include seven buzzy new city escapes, and wool roll-neck sweaters for November days; the most beautiful swimming pools in the world, and much, much more.
