Early morning train
I am a night owl, so as you can imagine, catching an early flight, or early morning train can be quite an ordeal when it involves full hair and makeup. I once had to catch a 5:00am flight and nearly had to wake in the middle of the night in order to be ready on time! These days, I have the whole routine down and it takes about an hour if I wash and set my hair in hot rollers the night before, which, as you can see here, seems to work beautifully.
TIME AGAIN for another Life Lately, and these past few days and weeks have felt rather busy, especially following the enforced hibernation of the lockdown years, which are beginning to feel like a million lifetimes ago now. There was an early morning train ride to Edinburgh at the beginning of the month and another to Glasgow the following day; and then all the way to the south, nearly as far as Wales just last week, stopping off at a quaint pub in Harrogate for supper on the way home. I mention that meal again, after telling you about in last week’s Weekend Links because it was so good. There were sunsets, just after the clouds had turned pink and wispy like candy floss; and quiet window seats at coffee shops in a city that used to be home. Here are a few phone photos of life lately…
Winter sunsets
One of the nicest things about living here is that by mid-February, the worst of winter is over. The mornings are brighter, with glimpses of sun, and the days are longer, ending with blazing orange sunsets that are dusky and perfectly romantic. P and I have watched a few together and they are always breathtaking and somehow uplifting, with their promise of warmer days.
Flowers at Fenwick's
One of the best ways to beat the winter blues is bouquets of fresh flowers and lots of them. Fenwick’s always has such a beautiful selection all year long, but during the wintertime, it’s especially nice to see roses and daisies and Baby’s Breath.
Spry Wine Bar
We’ll talk about the brand new Spry Wine Bar & Bottle Shop on Haddington more in another article, but here’s a quick glimpse into a new favourite place near our old neighbourhood.
Oat Milk Flat White
We were living in Edinburgh when the first Fortitude Coffee shop opened on York Place. There are now three locations in all, but we always stop in at this original location, just for old time’s sake. Mine is the oat milk flat white, P’s is a regular flat white.
