Happened across the Instagram page of an old friend by accident this weekend and discovered that she was renovating a house in San Miguel de Allende. Of course, the internet decided then that I wanted to know about all things Mexico-related and I came across this place, Casa Aviv, in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Built in 2020 by Collaborative Design Office (a local firm established in 2010), Casa Aviv is a 330-square-metre 2-level private villa for rent right in the heart of the jungle of Tulum. Located in a secure residential neighbourhood called Aldea Zama, the house sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a swim-up pool, lush gardens, and a rooftop terrace for sunbathing that features 360° views. There is fully-equipped double-height kitchen on the ground floor, where you will also find the living and dining areas that open straight out to the outdoor pool on one side and the garden on the other by way of floor-to-ceiling pivoting glass doors. The master bedroom, also located on the ground floor, includes a private patio with direct access to the pool.
The space is relaxing in its elegant simplicity, with warm grey polished cement walls set off against black terrazzo floors that were made onsite. Charred cedar wood carpentry adds to the neutral palette, while furnishings and custom designed light fixtures made by local artisans create the perfect balance between rustic and refined.
The area’s world-famous Caribbean white-sand beaches and natural pools known as cenotes are also nearby, although it may be difficult to leave such a beautiful space. Scroll through for a glimpse…
