We happened upon the lovely home office of Atlanta-based blogger Kristin Jackson quite by accident, and immediately fell in love with all of the wonderful details in the room: the architectural elements and lucite, the skirted table and leopard print. But by far our favourite part was what we thought were wood built-in shelving that turned out to be freestanding bourbon cabinets. Jackson, whose loves include traditional moulding, vintage rugs and leopard, spent years as an international hotel designer, so perhaps that is why there are so many considered parts to the room, such as the millwork 0n the built-in bookcases that cover one end of the room. Over 200 slats were created for the book shelves, but add architectural interest as well, a perfect blend of form and function. Other things we love are how the warm wood tones of the desk and bourbon cabinets work against the high gloss of the white walls. Scroll through for a glimpse of the room and read more about how the bourbon cabinets were installed…
The wood bourbon cabinets belonged to Jackson’s late father and sat in storage for over a year. When she finally decided to renovate the room that would function as her home office, library and family entrance, she had the inspired idea to recess the cabinets into the wall. There were two spaces in the room that held dry bar cupboards which were nearly the exact size of the bourbon cabinets. She removed the dry bars, framed the openings and created dry wall fronts, tracing the curves of the cabinets and cutting out the pattern with a jigsaw. As you can see, the finally result is stunning. Read more about the process here.
