Pierpaolo Piccioli can do no wrong at Valentino. Creative Director since 2008, but only sole Creative Director of the Maison since 2016 with the exit of Maria Grazia Chiuri, he has really come into his own. The Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection was no different. Beginning all in white, it was fanciful and it was beautiful. “I wanted to work on something universal, to get back to the essence of shape and volume,” he said. “So I worked on the idea of the white shirt, but treating it with a couture sensibility.” Flouncy little dresses and city shorts with braided rope belts and sandals, feathers and gilded eyes―it was feminine and just lovely.
