The Verride Palacio Santa Catarina describes itself as a renovated historic townhouse in the heart of Lisbon―an understatement, perhaps, for the 18th-century palacio turned boutique hotel. Originally the home of a Portuguese count, the building was once a bank and even a venue for a pop-up art festival. The 1750 four-storey, 19 room hotel is located in Lisbon’s Chiado quarter and features stunning views over the Tagus River and Atlantic Ocean. The modern boutique hotel was renovated with the help of well-known architect Teresa Nones da Ponte and interior designer Andrea Previ. The work included carefully restoring the Rococo-style crown mouldings, Portuguese and Greek marble, and the original blue and white hand-painted 18th-century Azulejo tiles. Aside from all the ornate and intricately carved wood paneling, fireplaces, chandeliers and herringbone wood floors, there is also sumptuous hand-painted de Gournay silk wall panels.
