Making the Case for Cowboy Boots
HAVE ALWAYS been a little wary of the cowboy boot—that specific style of riding historically worn by cowboys. The ones with a Cuban heel, rounded to pointed toe, high shaft and no lacing. If you’re interested in the history of this seasons’s hottest trend, you’ll want to know that early cowboy boot designs were heavily influenced by the vaquero tradition imported from Spain to the Americas, dating back to the early 16th century.
History aside, our wariness stems from never quite knowing what to wear with such a specific item. That is, until now. This autumn/winter, we’re seeing them casually paired with trenched coats, white jeans and utility dresses. Many opt to wear them with mini skirts—rust-coloured suede, black, white or hot pink—while others still choose a a check or houndstooth blazer or even a corseted dress. Our favourite, however, was on the Fendi Fall 2018 runway in Milan where a blush pink pair was mixed with a pale taupe satin dress…
