EARLIER THIS WEEK, on Tuesday evening, heavy snow began to fall over Paris and the surrounding suburban areas, causing one of Instagram‘s most famous Parisians, Alix of The Cherry Blossom Girl, to exclaim, “Today was the first time in my entire Parisian life (and it has been 27 years ) that I witnessed so much snow ! What a precious gift, what a magical sight !”
The sheer amount of snow that began falling created a chaos of sorts in the city, with regional train services interrupted and some motorists having to spend the night in their cars as the unprepared city did not have the roads cleared in time. According to Reuters, around 700 travelers ended up sleeping in two Paris train stations, with around 1,500 people in all needing shelter between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The Eiffel Tower turned tourists away for two days in a row, and flights were disrupted. It it reported that around 15cm of snow fell, which, according to Meteo France, was the largest snow accumulation in the French capital since 1987.
