A LOVE LETTER TO PARISIAN STYLE best describes Giambattista Valli’s vision for the spring. In the midst of a wave of politically-charged collections mirroring the events shaking up the globe, the romantic melancholy presented on a rainy Parisian morning was a welcome addition. There were twists on la petite robe noire; some were flared and corseted–a nod to the sexy and subversive waist-cinching trend worn by Gigi and Kendall–others came with buoyant ruffles that extended to the ankle. There were re-imaginings of athleisure in a French nonchalant manner: just wear a pair of Nike leggings with some open-toed lace-up boots and a highly tailored billowing jacket.
There were also the fashion house’s signature gowns that attracted European royalty and it-girls to the brand in the first place. They were less voluminous and more lightweight this season, perhaps acknowledging the need for some breathing space after the past few months. Ethereal cherry-embellished white lace and French polka dots filled dresses to the rim, and a fiery red gown, sculpted at the waist, and flounced at the hem, was a winner.
