A young couple with two different tastes, and add to the mix, an uncle who is also an acclaimed interior designer known for his use of patterns, textures and colours—this is the story behind the décor of this apartment.
David Earls and Samantha Rudin Earls asked to Alex Papachristidis, Samantha`s uncle, to decorate and find a solution for merging their tastes: David is more neutral, classic and prefers silver to gold; Samantha is more daring, likes opulence and … gold. She likes purple, he, blue. The solution? Combine both tastes in the apartment, with accents of silver and gold, blue and purple everywhere.
Above: the library, the most patterned room; just the sofa includes eight patterns!
Rich patterns, ornate sofas, walls and carpets come together with an interesting mix of themes: florals, animal print, and graphic. Here in the entry, there`s a treasure: a painting by Renoir that belonged to David’s grandfather.
David’s office is all blue—his favourite colour and the steel desk brings silver, but flashes of gold combine Samantha`s taste to the room.

Alex Papachristidis also decorated Samantha`s parents, brother and sister-in-law’s homes, as well her previous apartment when she was single. To avoid similiarities, he says: “Once I’ve used a pattern, it’s done for me.”
During the renovation, Samantha and David welcomed their first child, Elle. Her bedroom is all in lavender with a delicate mix of patterns.
The final aesthetic is cozy, interesting and rich, combining different tastes and a expert eye to create an incredible home. —Bárbara
