THE APPEAL OF ITALY IS TIMELESS and has endured through the ages, whether it is due to iconic architecture like the impossibly intricate pink and green marble façade of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence; movie stars such as Sophia Loren who have come to define glamorous sex appeal; fashion houses from Prada to Valentino who, season after season, reimagine and push the boundaries of elegance and femininity; or the charming older couple sitting on the table beside you at Piazza San Marco, and the vivacious and stylish group of friends who walk past you on a night out in Rome, making you wish you were part of that conversation.
Italian street style stars seem to have stolen the show this season. Georgia Tordini maintains a monochromatic colour palette and simplistic style, yet imbues it with Italian touches, like that of a turtleneck combined with a thick wool blazer, or a retro double-breasted pantsuit in the most crisp hue of beige. Meanwhile, it-girl Gilda Ambrosio experiments with her style to such an extent that she might be unrecognisable from one day to the next, yet there is something wholly Italian about her attitude; she’s nonchalant, but never takes herself too seriously. And so, while we’ll always have Paris, why not pack a small suitcase of cocoon coats and double-breasted blazers in pearly beige hues, and a chic silk scarf by Hermès, and board a flight to Rome, à la Audrey Hepburn?Images: 1 – The Fashion of Audrey, 2 – Sara Linnea, 4 – Paris in Four Months, 5 – The Red List, 6 – Pinterest, 7 – Vanity Fair, 8 – Tumblr, 9 – Pinterest, 10 – Arianne Se Stessi, 11 – Pinterest, 12, 19 – @catherinesomething, 13 – A Love is Blind, 14 – Styleigion, 15 – stylesnooperdan, 16 – Dustjacket-attic, 17 – bcncoolhunter, 19 – Amandoblogs.
