WHILE SOME ARE STILL FLOATING in the clouds over this week’s travel inspiration of 25 beautiful places around the world, today, a small departure from our usual toile-fuelled fantasies for a look at the floods of light and clean lines of this modern loft in Los Angeles. Belonging to Joan McNamara of Joan’s on Third, a café and gourmet goods market she founded in the 1990s, the industrial chic loft is actually only a few blocks away from the café.
Done in a colour palette that Joan is fond of–white with strong black accents–the space still has warmth due to all the antiques and vintage finds, including rich wood panels and copper pans that play off the concrete floor. There is even a garage door that opens onto a balcony and the outdoors. It’s no wonder that her favourite pastime is, “Reading cookbooks, making lists, and baking bread on a rainy day in my loft.”
