Juliet Balconies
A Juliet balcony is a type of narrow balcony or railing that is typically found on the upper floors of a building or house. Unlike a traditional balcony, a Juliet balcony does not extend outward from the building’s exterior wall but is instead flush with it. It is usually installed as a decorative feature or as a safety feature to prevent people from falling out of an open window.
The name “Juliet balcony” is said to have originated from the famous balcony scene in William Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet.” In the play, the character Romeo famously professes his love to Juliet while standing on a balcony outside her window. Although the balcony in the play was likely not a true Juliet balcony, the name has become associated with this type of architectural feature.
