“There is a purpose in everything. In order to achieve it, one must detach oneself from an awareness of self.” The importance of this humility lay in the fact that without it one cannot perceive things as they are in themselves; egotism tries to refashion things according its own distorted perceptions. “I am no longer of this world,” wrote the young Brancusi. “I am far from myself, I am no longer a part of my own person. I am within the essence of things themselves.”
ONE OF THE fashion world’s most beautiful and enduring platonic love stories was almost never to be. As the story goes, in 1953, while filming Sabrina, Audrey Hepburn paid a visit to French couturier Hubert de Givenchy's studio in Paris to discuss the possibility of his designing the dresses for the film.
Today’s Interior Redux features not one, but two homes of one of the greatest couturiers of the 20th century, Hubert de Givenchy. The designer owned three homes in France, and early last year, we looked at the designer’s country estate — Le Jonchet (see it here), where he permanently resides today, at the age of 89.
