HAPPY VALENTINE’S Day! Do you have anything special planned? This weekend we finally had a chance to watch Nomadland the 2020 film written, produced, edited and directed by Chloé Zhao. It was, in a word, depressing. Poignant, perhaps to the point of heartbreak. In way though, it also made me thankful for my life and the things I have and reminded me to not take them for granted (ever), just as it made me really think about the future in a way I never had before, being someone who spends life between living in the moment and dwelling on the past. It was a film about loss and ageing and not knowing what lay ahead. It was also quietly moving and beautifully shot, but I don’t think I could watch it again. So far, these first few weeks of the new year have been sunny and bright (at least in the mornings, before the clouds roll in) and there are snowdrops everywhere. February is one of those hopeful, transitionary months that reminds us that spring is on the way.

In celebration of today, I leave you with the second verse of Margaret Atwood’s poem, “Variations On The Word Love”

Then there’s the two
of us. This word
is far too short for us, it has only
four letters, too sparse
to fill those deep bare
vacuums between the stars
that press on us with their deafness.
It’s not love we don’t wish
to fall into, but that fear.
this word is not enough but it will
have to do. It’s a single
vowel in this metallic
silence, a mouth that says
O again and again in wonder
and pain, a breath, a finger
grip on a cliffside. You can
hold on or let go.

This week’slinks include a glass house in Chile and creating the real fancy world of fake heiress Anna Delvey; a cashmere belted cardigan for winter days; a water cabin in Seattle and much, much more.
