In 1990 after German reunification, Leipzig lost over 20% of its population as many people flocked to the more prosperous western Germany. Recent years have seen Leipzig surpass its pre-reunification population of 530,000 to 570,000 to become Germany’s fastest growing major city. The city is undergoing a renaissance with many people drawn by the beautiful period architecture, thriving art scene and affordable prices.
