IT IS THAT TIME AGAIN, the time for the sheer magic that is ELIE SAAB haute couture, and this collection, with its swirls of feathers and ruffles of tulle, sheer bodiced, jewel-encrusted floor-grazing gowns, are said to be the Lebanese designer’s tribute to his beloved Beruit:

“A beautiful memory of Beirut often visits me in a dream. A loving, giving and tolerant Beirut. A glamorous one too. A beautiful memory that never ceased to inspire me – that inspired this collection. This is a tribute to the city that I love. My Beirut.
Looking back at the eventful history of Lebanon, through its flourishing periods and its downfalls, I feel hopeful, I feel grateful.”

Here are 37 favourite looks from the runway and backstage . . .

    So unbelievably beautiful.

I love how he used the muted greys to symbolize the industrial destruction of Beirut in history, the slightly messy ruffles to subtly hint at the chaos Beirut has endured- all combined with beautiful sheer and glittering fabrics (some of them merging into each other, to show Lebanon’s ‘flourishing periods’) to describe the beauty and elegance of the people there. The lovely, soft fleshy tones remind me of home, and comfort. I really admire Elie, I come from Beirut too. It’s so nice to see him inspired by his culture. Thanks for this post!

  • Like a dream!

  • I love his work.
And I love Beirut for that matter :) – beautiful city.
