CONTINUING with FASHION MONTH, New York Fashion Week tipped off the busy month with a blur of collections and designers creating traffic front, right and centre. One designer, Jonathan Simkhai, however, despite having a four-year-old fashion label, came out as one of the exciting talents to watch among the heavyweights showcased this season.

With a solid downtown following, Simkhai’s latest Spring/Summer 2015 Ready-to-Wear collection brought his well-known sporty-androgynous accents to the forefront. Presenting a collection at Milk Studios that took inspiration from photographs of smashed glasses, the fragmented shapes were translated into a 20-piece collection of jagged hems & geometric angles.

Transforming the delicacy of sharp imagery into softer, cut out pieces with mesh overlay (a signature of his), a splintering effect was created amongst the silhouettes of a-line culottes, cropped bomber jackets and longer skirts. Translucent panels created a peek-and-boo effect, combining his unquestionable ability to infuse sexy, provocative pieces with an alluring feminine touch.
