Runway : Dolce & Gabbana

Alta Moda Spring 2014

Sumptuous spring came early last week when Dolce & Gabbana unveiled their Alta Moda couture collection at Milan Fashion Week. A special invitation-only event with an exclusive clientele of fashion editors, stylists and haute couture clients—only 150 guests were allowed to attend.

A romantic ode to the arrival of spring, the Italian penthouse was transformed into a 19th century rose garden with swirls of expensive perfume and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Inspired by floral arrangements in classic art, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana secured reproduction rights from international museums to replicate iconic art into wearable fabric.

Billowing ball gowns draped in black tulle and rose adornments cascaded down the runway, each piece is made to order on a first-come, first-served basis. Van Gogh’s sunflowers were swathed in silk, Manet’s white lilacs made a guest appearance and Redon’s anemones were all stitched into the tapestry. With delicate accessories and soft colours featured in Dolce &Gabbana ’s fourth couture collection, it looks like a blooming success.
