{colour inspiration: purple reign}
Whether it’s shades of lilac, lavender, plum, puce, thistle, orchid, aubergine, wine, magenta, violet, mauve, indigo or amethyst, purple is everywhere, from shimmery blouses, to loveseats, be-ribboned sandals, and accent walls. It is associated with royalty, regality, and nobility, believed to be Cleopatra’s favourite colour and is included in The Washington Post’s Fall Forecast.

While the luxurious and royally vibrant shades may hang in my closet, have only ever been adventurous enough to consider the soft, romantic, and delicate hues of lilac and lavender for décor . . .

  • Chloe’s Chic Conception — have been collecting these images for quite a while now, from all over the place . . .

Melissa – LOL – have never seen Donny Osmond’s purple socks, but sounds like fun :) And I have been considering lavender more and more lately – supposed to be a calming and relaxing tone, which is perfect.

balsamfir – what little faith you had in me! Just kidding – I wasn’t certain either how it would work out, since I have an aversion to the grape shades as well, but yes, ashy mauves are pure romance.

easy and elegant – absolutely love that shot from The Sartorialist, and certain you will look dashing this winter in your purple jumper. Photos to follow on your blog, perhaps?

Amelia – thank you! Will head over there now to have a look . . .

Diana – thanks! Had quite a bit of fun coming up with the title :)

  • Absolutely LOVE the coat, so simple and gorgeous! I do wear purple occasionally, but can’t use it in my decor. I’ve loved the idea since a friend decorated her nursery in lavender and tan many years ago. Beautiful post!

  • You are nominated at my blog!

    All the best,

One of my favourite shots from The Sartorialist. I bought a purple jumper just like it to wear this winter. Purple and grey, purple and blue, lavender and mint green brighten up winter days.

  • You know, I thought I’d hate this post, since the idea of purple still makes me think of all that tacky stuff from highschool, and I’m still allergic to the “grape” shades, but those ashy mauves are lovely, in rooms and clothes and go very well with the new grays I’ve been seeing. Great post.

  • Glad to see purple is here to stay for another year :). Great images as always…

  • Wow, purple makes me think of either Donny Osmond and his purple socks (you are too young to know about that) or Prince’s Purple Reign! Really, purple is such a lovely hue it deserves more attention. Especially love lavender. For some reason I never use it or buy it in clothing either. But in your pics, I love it!

Happy week to you!!! Hope your weekend was splendid!

  • I love this post!! I love how you choose a variety of room decors & styles! How did you find all of these?! Gorgeous and inspiring (as always)!

  • Remember the purple craze in the mid-80’s? It’s obviously back for another go round.

  • I love how the color purple is coming back into style and sinking into our consciousness. The amethyst table lamp is stunning!

  • Cybill – thanks so much for such a lovely compliment! It’s not always easy, but sometimes things just come together. The list of images, sources and credits, on the other hand, was crazy to put together :)

Thanks again for always taking a moment to stop by :)

  • Tee – thought Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2008 is Blue Iris? Definitely has purplish hues.

  • I adore that last shot – would love a library / come glamorous-tea room like that :)

  • It’s amazing, you’re really good at that! I began to love that color with the appartement of the tv show “Friends” (it wasn’t beautiful as your pictures, but…). So, when I was younger, I decided to paint my closet’s door in that color. I don’t know why, but it’s a color I especially like. Great choice of pictures!!

  • No-one can put together a stream of pictures as well as you can! You have made me a purple convert. I don’t know where to begin on how much I love these pics – I’m going back to look at them again.

  • Oh My.. the gown is totally heart stopping beautiful

  • I too have been loving all things purple lately so much so I’m contemplating a little bit of a purple injection at home and at Black & Spiro at the moment! So fun…I’ve never liked purple before now!! So many lovely inspiring purple images you have posted!!

  • It’s Pantone’s colour of the year as well.
