Katie G. Whipple grew up in central Indiana. After graduating from high school, Katie decided to forgo a traditional college education and moved to New York City to study academic painting at the Grand Central Atelier.  She has since been the recipient of many awards, including scholarships from the Grand Central Atelier, the Art Renewal Center, and a purchase award from the Indiana State Museum for the permanent collection.  Most notably, Katie was awarded second place and named “Protogenes” in the 2013 GCA Drawing competition and was also the recipient of the 2013-2014 Alma Schapiro Prize. The Alma Schapiro Prize sent her to the American Academy in Rome for three months to study the works of the old masters. Katie extended her stay in Italy,  journeying from Rome to Florence and Naples, studying antiquity and the Renaissance intensively for eight months. She now works full time as a professional painter, teaches part time at the Grand Central Atelier, and lives in Queens, NY with her husband, who is also an artist.

The Balmoral in British Tan and sun-drenched garden picnics will always be favourite things.

P.S. So many of you have been asking about the return of the Parisian Skies Tassel Loafer and the new Rue de Rivoli Penny Loafer -- both are available at shop.thisisglamorous.com & at Belgrave Crescent xo

The Instagram snapshots of Miami-based Daniela Moreno of @ironnsalt. We adore the romantic tone of the images, which are often in muted shades of pink and brown...

Nara Dreamland

This abandoned theme park in Japan, photographed by Shane Thoms. Built in 1961, it closed down in 2006. Today it lies forgotten on the edge of Nara City, Japan's former capital.

A beautiful summery space created with this chic Terrace Dining Pedestal Table and rattan chairs (here & here). The Monaco Bar Cart can be found here.

We're still not over the work of Natasja Sadi, a wedding dress designer turned baker & cake decorator based in Amsterdam. We first wrote about here, and couldn't resist adding one more image of one of her stunning creations.

GUCCI GARDEN & Gucci Osteria

Gucci Garden, a new shop, along with Gucci Osteria, a full-service restaurant, opened in Florence recently. The Gucci Museo, which has been housed in the historic Palazzo della Mercanzia (which dates to 1337 and sits between the Piazza della Signoria and the Piazza di San Firenze) since 2011, is adjacent to new restaurant. The boutique sells clothing and accessories not available in any other store, while the museum includes the archives and an exhibition curated by Maria Luisa Frisa that features "a wide range of pieces from collections dating back to the House’s Florentine origins in 1921 and marry these with recent work, memorabilia, ephemera and contemporary art."

Gucci Osteria, the adjacent 50-seat restaurant, is headed by three-Michelin-starred chef Massimo Bottura, who offers a designed four-course menu. Bottura is the very same as of the famous Osteria Francescana, based in Modena and featured in Aziz Ansari's Master of None. The Osteria serves Italian classics, like Parmigiano Reggiano tortellini, pork buns, and mushroom risotto.
