Décor Inspiration | A coastal cottage in Cornwall, England
The village of Mousehole, almost at the tip of Cornwall in the South West of England, is one of those storybook villages that makes you feel like you may have stepped onto a film set. Its picture perfect cottages cluster around a tiny harbour full of colourful boats that still fish the seas around the coast to this day. It’s no surprise to learn that Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas famously named it ‘the prettiest village in England’.

In the heart of this beautiful village, overlooking the harbour, is a cottage quaintly called ‘The Herringbone’. It started life as a net loft for local fishermen but has now become a very luxurious hideaway which can be rented as holiday accommodation.

The interior has been decorated in a gentle coastal style with lots of painted vintage furniture and soft linen cushions. Classic details like painted wooden panelling, nautical lights and a stove add charm and a wonderful sense of home. And there are also clever touches like the kitchen taps fashioned from copper piping that add the tiniest edge of industrial style which keeps the overall look from being too dressed up—after all it started out life as a humble net loft . . .   Louise
