{photographs from the weekend : gullane & a day along the coast}

. . . this past weekend, left the city behind for a leisurely countryside drive, a stop in the most quaint café [for coffee and an exquisite slice of apricot tart], and a day in the picturesque town of gullane, about twenty miles outside of edinburgh, to spend the day on the east coast of scotland, amongst perfectly manicured golf courses and cosy inns, grassy dunes and miles upon miles of sandy beaches; under the ever-changing light — from golden, to ethereal shades of dusky violet and pink the colour of daydreams — it would be, one of the best days, ever, at least so far . . .

. . . and as with every beach anywhere in the world for as long as can remember, always a moment to search for a few rocks and seashells to bring home as a reminder of that day . . .

TRAVEL | information :

If planning a day trip to the east coast, the café we stopped at is called:

Falko Konditormeister
1 Stanley Road
Gullane, East Lothian
EH31 2AD
t : +44 (0) 1620 843 168
e : [email protected]

[I ordered the apricot tart, which was utterly delicious & highly recommended, along with the best americano to date; P ordered the peanut slice, rich and decadent, and a mocha, which came with whipped cream and chocolate shavings — also decadent!]

And if you’re planning to spend the night, P discovered this Edwardian Country House:

Greywalls Hotel & Chez Roux Restaurant
Muirfield, Gullane, East Lothian
EH31 2EG
t : 01620 842144
f : 01620 842241
e : [email protected]

After spending most of the afternoon at the beach, only had time to stop in at one shop, filled with handwoven Harris Tweed handbags and weekend carryalls:

Black House
23 Summerside Place, Main Street
Gullane, East Lothian
EH31 2AW
t : 01620 843550
e : [email protected]

{p.s.} the name of the beach we visited was called Gullane Bents x

  • Such a beautiful place—I am in awe of the natural beauty—the beach, the hills, the sun… wow! So nice to see you in some of the captures, too—looking as lovely as ever 🙂

    xxoo, Sarah

  • That’s absolutely beautiful. My husband and I were there last year and stayed at Greywalls! I’m pretty sure we did the same walk, but it was really cold and gray when we were there. I would love to go back. Great photos x

  • anonymous — must have been a lovely cycle! shall have to try the hazelnut bread; yes, stopped by the morningside location before, but it was christmas eve day, and closed at 3:00! will have to try again soon x

  • Beautiful images! it looks like you had a great time spending the weekend in such a wonderful environment. Would love to visit Edinburgh one day and the area around it.
